Close to Charles Bridge, Lokál U Bílé kuželky (At the White Skittle) restaurant is an excellent mix of good food and reasonable prices, in a traditional Czech setting. All Lokál restaurants are the work of Václav Červenka, in-house architect at the Ambiente group, which owns them. You can expect interiors with wooden panelling, Thonet chairs and robust tables, which makes tourists and locals alike feel as if they’re in an authentic Czech hostelry. Of course, the well-served draught Pilsner beer merely adds to the atmosphere, and to the pubgoers, the tanks in the lower section of the restaurant resemble metal airships. The interior, like other Lokál establishments in the city, combines pub furniture and engaging engravings on the walls. A stag’s head adorns one of them; an image of a dragon bearing a tray with glasses another. In terms of décor, each Lokál restaurant is unique; at U Bílé kuželky, Studio Najbrt came up with the design.

The menu includes tripe soup, including as a main meal made in the classic way, with large chunks. If you’re looking for more sophisticated fare, you’ll like the Paprika Chicken or chicken breast with mushroom seasoning. And don’t forget to sample some of the delicious pub snacks, such as pickled herring or Prague ham.
