Pass through the double doors of Mash Hana restaurant and you’ll feel as if you’ve left Prague far behind. The Czech section of the menu is a reminder that you’re in Prague, and just metres away from the Villa Bílek. Otherwise, you’re on a Japanese island surrounded by Central Europe.

The interior is furnished in a minimalist style, and the waitresses, dressed in oriental-themed outfits, are unusually accommodating. And the feeling that you have been transported to Tokyo continues when your meal arrives. At Mash Hana, you can sample a full range of Japanese cuisine (as well as some Korean dishes).

The best way to start your meal is with gyoza, a light beef broth containing meat dumplings. Like other dishes at this restaurant, this soup minimises the use of strong spices and flavours. Instead, at Mash Hana they let the basic flavours of the ingredients shine through, in accordance with one of the basic principles of Japanese cooking. At Mash Hana you can make your order the way it’s done in Japan. Just let the chef pick something for you. You’re sure to enjoy your meal.

The sushi served at Masha Hana is a story in itself. Try chirashi, made up of 10 varieties of sushi and other seafood elements, served with rice only. Basically, the dish comes down to essential flavours, which need nothing added to them in any way.
