Highlights

Main description

Kutná Hora was founded in the Middle Ages and stands on the site of an extensive network of silver mines. In the 14th century it was, after Prague, the second most important town in the Kingdom of Bohemia, and Kutná Hora flourished until the 16th century. The town’s most beautiful sights date from this golden – or rather silver age.

Among other sights you’ll see the majestic Cathedral of St Barbara, the patron saint of miners, considered a shining example of Bohemian Late Gothic. You can see traces of the Middle Ages at every turn, such as at the underground chapel of All Saints Church, which is also known as Sedlec Ossuary. The decoration, made from skulls and bones, is a strong reminder of the transience of human life…
