Imperial Stables

Key details

Where? Hradčany

The Imperial Stables at Prague Castle (Císařská konírna) are the result of Emperor Rudolf II’s passion for horses. The Stables were constructed where part of the castle ramparts and an old vicarage once stood. If you enter Prague Castle from Prašný most (Powder Bridge) and pass the guards at the entrance, you’ll see the doorway to the Stables in the passage to the left.

In 1990, the final decision was taken to use the stables, which had recently been reconstructed, for exhibitions and concerts.

Close to the Imperial Stables is the Second Courtyard, where you’ll find the Prague Castle Picture Gallery, which is home to a fine collection of old masters.
